BBC Televion’s the One Show’s Rickshaw Challenge passed through Coads Green on Saturday and was met by great support from residents.

The challenge, in its fifth year, has a new team of riders cycling a new route across England beginning in Land’s End on November 6 and ending at Elstree on November 13.

This year’s team will be covering a course of 470 miles to help fundraise for BBC Children in Need.

The rickshaw is being pedalled by a team of six young riders, all of whom have been supported by BBC Children in Need-funded projects: Erin, George, Amira, Lucy, Elliot and George G.

Locals showed support as the rickshaw was pedalled through Coads Green on its way to Okehampton on the second day of the challenge.

Launceston Young Farmers came out to welcome the cyclists — along with locals from Bray Shop, including Barbara Pocock and Sally Brashaw, and North Hill supporters David and Irene Shoubridge and Jane and Martin Hynes.

One resident, Derry Maunder, showed up in a fitting Pudsey hat and waved her flag as the cyclists rode through the village.

The One Show’s Matt Baker was on hand to give advice and support to the six cyclists and will continue alongside them throughout the journey, with Alex Jones splitting her time between reporting from the One Show’s studios and spending time on the road with the team.

The challenge has already raised more than £7.9-million.

The team headed off towards their final destination after the warm welcome from the residents of Coads Green and surrounding areas.

The route was described as one of the hardest on record, with a 74-mile stint from Bristol to Winchester, but it is hoped all their effort will be rewarded and help to secure another strong total this year.
