WHEN the Launceston Amateur Dramatic Society (LADS) presented their last production, “The Adventures of Mr Toad”, in August 2018, they were contacted by a lady who called herself ‘Granny Rainbow’.
She told LADS that she collected miniature soft toys, particularly miniature soft toys of badgers. LADS were running a competition which featured small soft toys of the four main characters from ‘The Adventures of Mr Toad’ and they were displayed in four shops around Launceston.
‘Granny Rainbow’ saw the toys and tried to buy ‘Mr Badger’ from one of the shops, but they were not for sale. The shop put her in touch with LADS and a phone number was left to allow LADS to contact her after the show and give her ‘Mr Badger’.
Unfortunately, the number went missing and LADS sought the help of the Post who published a plea saying that LADS were trying to reach Granny Rainbow to give her ‘Mr Badger’.
Lo and behold, one of our readers saw the article and put LADS in touch with Granny Rainbow.
Watched over by Charles Causley, Granny Rainbow was presented with ‘Mr Badger’ as well as ‘Mr Mole’, ‘Toady’ and ‘Ratty’ by the chairman of LADS, Nigel Courtenay-Crabb, at Launceston Town Hall recently.
Nigel said: “The four characters will join Granny Rainbow’s other toys in her car as she takes them on trips around the countryside all nested together in a special place where they can view the countryside as it passes.
“So, a big ‘thank you’ to the Post for making it possible for LADS to unite Granny Rainbow, who in another life is Lesley Weldon, and ‘Mr Badger’, ‘Mr Mole’, ‘Toady’ and ‘Ratty’. A happy ending to a ‘Toy Story’.”
