LAUNCESTON Royal British Legion branch committee were delighted to welcome Cllr Paul O'Brien to their meeting last week and accept a cheque for £2,014.50 to go to the Cornwall County Welfare Fund.

When Cllr O'Brien was in office as Mayor, his chosen charities were the RBL and the Launceston St John Ambulance appeal for funds to purchase a replacement 4x4 ambulance. The RBL has already made good use of the previous donation, and Cllr O'Brien felt that, as the ambulance will not now be bought, the money raised by local people should again go to the legion. The committee expressed its gratitude and will ensure the money goes to local veterans in need of help.

At the meeting, Mick Chambers asked to step down as branch treasurer, and was applauded for his efforts over the past few years, in his capacity as treasurer, and for all the work entailed in liaising with the builders and architects during the refurbishment of the new premises. This is now complete, and new treasurer Darrall Alexander should have a slightly easier job.
