An event in Bude raising funds for a young boy’s special prosthetic arm is a staggering success after more than £1,500 is raised for the cause.
Over the last few months, the local community have been coming together to raise money to support a young boy’s fund for a new, high-tech prosthetic arm.
Jayden’s Hero Arm have been aiming to raise £13,000 for Jayden Henry-Poole, a young man from Bude, who is dreaming of getting his new arm from Open Bionics, an organisation based in Bristol who produce 3D printed, advanced prosthetics.
At their most recent event, The Race Night at Wainhouse Inn, more than £1,500 was raised through auctions, games and raffles. Rebecca Poole, Jayden’s mother said: “The race night at Wainhouse Inn, organised by Cory Wickett and his mum Sarah raised a staggering £1,595.81.
“This included the races which were sponsored by local businesses, the prizes weren’t huge but the fun had by everybody was amazing! There was also two tickets to the Wyldes, kindly donated by the Wyldes organisers, a lot of numbers were sold and the tickets were won by a lovely young couple.
“Pasties were donated from Polmorla Pasties to be sold, lots of raffle tickets were sold for various prizes. The highlight of the evening for us was an auction for a signed vinyl LP from ‘Seasick Steve’! The auction was won by the lovely Bob.
“We’d just like to thank everybody for making us welcome and of course for raising a huge amount of money and confidence for Jayden!”
This is not the only event which has been raising money for Jayden however.
Rebecca continued: “The Bassline music concert was fabulous! All the musicians and singers did a great job and they raised a total of £510!
“If you haven’t had the chance to see Bassline yet, be sure to visit one of their concerts, you will not be disappointed! Their next concert is in aid of Cancer UK and will be held at the Falcon Hotel on April 22.”
With Jayden now booked in to visit Open Bionics in April, the group have one final funraising event, for now.
Rebecca explained: “So for our final fundraising event, for now, is our Easter Craft Fair which will be held on April 1 and once again we’ll be at The Methodist Church Hall from 10am.
“We’ll have the usual refreshments along with pasties, sausage rolls, quiches and plenty of cake!
“There will also be some free colouring and sticking crafts for the kids. We’ll also be doing the toy raffle where one lucky winner will be taking home a huge bundle of toys from Toymaster! And don’t forget about our huge raffle with great prizes, the prizes have been mostly donated from local businesses!
“Thank you to each and every one of them.”
