THE ‘quickest authorisation of pothole repair in Devon’ was made by Holsworthy Town Council at its full meeting on Wednesday, December 6.

For many years the entrance to the Magpie/RBL club’s car park on North Road in Holsworthy has been in disrepair, with the short stretch of tarmac blighted by potholes.

The clubs contacted the council ahead of its November meeting to ask for help. The council agreed to look into costing for repairs as the piece of land is under their jurisdiction — not including the lease.

Town clerk Vanessa Saunders reported back to councillors at the recent full council meeting with the quotes she had amassed for the work.

She said: “I have two quotes for the pothole repair. One, is a basic job, where they will basically fill in the holes with a simple tarmac. Or two, is the full job, which will involve them ripping up the entire stretch and refilling and resurfacing it.

“I suggest we go for the full job as if we only do the basic job now it will end up needing to be done fully at a later date anyway.”

Mayor Jon Hutchings simply said: “Yes — there, job done.”

The quote for the work is from Plant GM Hire for £1,988 plus VAT.

The other councillors agreed. Cllr Hutchings added: “That was probably the quickest authorisation of pothole repair ever carried out in Devon.”

Ms Saunders added jokingly: “Devon County Council could learn a thing or two from us.”
