IN June, Cornwall Air Ambulance undertook 62 helicopter missions and eight missions in the critical care cars.
A quarter of the missions were to aid visitors to the county and the paramedic aircrew treated seven children and babies throughout the county.
In total, 27 patients were flown to Royal Cornwall Hospital and eight to Derriford Hospital. There were 12 road traffic collisions that led to the tasking of the air ambulance and the paramedics treated five drivers and four motorcyclists.
A sixth of the incidents were in the north of the county. Cornwall Air Ambulance visited Bodmin three times, treating two men with medical emergencies and flying a man injured in a fall on a farm to Derriford Hospital for further treatment.
A visitor in Bude suffered a stroke and was flown to Derriford, as was an elderly visitor to Holsworthy and a resident in Holsworthy was treated on scene for a severe infection.
A visitor to Wadebridge and a visitor to St Minver, suffering medical illness, were both flown to Treliske and a resident in Rock, suffering a stroke, was flown to Truro in 15 minutes.
A young visitor, who was injured while coasteering, was flown to the Royal Cornwall with suspected back injuries and a car driver in Launceston, with head injuries following a road traffic collision, was flown to Derriford.
Cornwall Air Ambulance does not receive any government funding for its rescue missions and relies on the generosity of residents and visitors alike and donations are always gratefully accepted.
