THE Tourism Minister, the Rt Hon David Evennett MP (Cons), has recently toured Devon and Cornwall to have an insight into the quality of the hospitality and food offered in the region, as well as seeking feedback on the recent government support for the industry.

An event held at Plymouth Gin on June 9 gave the minister the opportunity to meet Devon hoteliers and restauranteurs, along with local food producers.

The minister was enthused by the range and quality of hospitality and food and drink that is produced in Devon, and said: “The quality of your hospitality and what is being produced in the county is amazing and truly world class.

“We will continue to focus our efforts to encourage overseas visitors to explore more of the UK’s regions, and not just stay in London.”

Adam Fox-Edwards, the Lifton-based hotelier and owner of Devon Hampers, met the minister and presented him with a gift of a bottle of Pebblebed Brut sparkling wine, which comes from Topsham and is the best selling sparkling wine from within the Devon Hampers range.

Adam said: “It was great that the minister came down to our region and appreciated what we are doing. I’m sure that he will enjoy the taste of Devon that we gave him to take back to London.”
