HAVING read the Mayor's comments regarding the appearance of Holsworthy on the Politics Show, a show he openly admits that he did not watch, I felt that I should make some comments of my own.
Firstly the BBC interviewed several traders, (not just two as reported), and spoke to many more before they came to film, but only had time to screen two of the interviews during the show.
Secondly the whole point of the show was to highlight the problems faced by market towns hit by the recession, so that the government realise the need to take immediate, effective action.
Whilst we could all bury our heads in the sand and pretend that this is a normal January, most of us realise that we have to accept we are in the midst of a recession. We can then start to look for solutions, ways to promote Holsworthy and our businesses by working together.
This of course involves co-operation, something that our town council seems to struggle with. How sad to read in the paper that our mayor feels that he receives more co-operation from Torridge Councillors than from his own colleagues.
Surely it is time for personal differences to be put aside, so that we can start to put Holsworthy back on track?
Sole Mates,
Holsworthy.
