A BRECONSHIRE school boy has started daily protests at plans to remove Welsh language education from his school.
Berwyn Cooper, a year eight pupil at Brecon High School, has been staging a protest at the main entrance to the school for a period before lessons start every morning, for the past week.
The 13-year-old from Brecon, who has been joined by an increasing number of school friends each morning said: "I want to make everyone aware I want to fight for the Welsh language in our school."
The proposals to close the Welsh stream at Brecon High School next July, which would mean pupils would transfer to Builth Wells High School from September 2016, were announced in March alongside plans to close Brecon and Gwernyfed High in the summer of 2017 and replace them with a new English only school.
The council has previously said it believes transferring pupils to Builth would strengthen the provision of Welsh by ensuring there are sufficient numbers in every subject.
Powys council said around 100 people attended the drop in at Brecon High on June 22 and confirmed since March seven pupils from the Welsh stream at Brecon High have transferred to Builth High School.
A drop in consultation is also being held at Builth Wells High School on Thursday, June 25 from 4pm to 8pm.
