PEOPLE gathered at the Platt in Port Isaac to witness the Christmas lights switch-on on Friday, December 6.

A parade took place before the switch-on. Starting at the primary school, a procession of local school children with their specially crafted lanterns were led by a bagpiper through Fore Street down to the Platt.

Dawn Conjoyce, headteacher of Port Isaac Community Primary School, said: “Port Isaac school pupils all made their own lanterns during a workshop with local artist Caroline Cleave. Children, families and many villagers excitedly gathered in school just before the parade to light lanterns and don reindeer antlers and flashing red noses.

“It had already been a busy day for the children as they had all been to Eden to see Father Christmas or to ice skate.

“The parade through the village was a wonderful way to kick start Christmas celebrations in school and demonstrated how central the children are to the life of the village. Thank you to everyone who arranged and supported the evening.”
