PUPILS from three local schools, Coads Green, Lewannick and Altarnun, have experienced a taste of opera over the last six weeks.

They have been participating in a programme of sessions called ‘Create and Sing Carmen’ developed by the Royal Opera House.

The sessions culminated in a final performance held at Launceston College.

The original opera was adapted and included special arrangements of extracts from the score. In the build up to this final performance the children developed their understanding of opera, their ability to tell stories through song as well as their performance and acting skills.

This project was funded by the Cornwall Music Education Hub, Launceston Youth Council and Launceston Rotary community shop. It was co-ordinated by Mrs Shelley Jeffery and Mrs Nicola Hosking.
