A group of children from Halwill, St Giles-on-the-Heath and Clawton Primary Schools were asked to design a poster, to help deter speeding vehicles within the communities in which they live and go to school. The winning posters were made into road signs.
Speeding vehicles are a big problem within the majority of villages but these specific locations were identified because they are on a main road with a high volume of traffic passing through each day and also the proximity of the schools to those roads.
After extensive liaison with the Highways department and obtaining the funding to pay for the signs to be made, they are now in place.
Thanks have been expressed to the children who were past members of their respective schools for their efforts in designing the posters/signs, District Councillor Marion Perkin and County Councillor Barry Parsons for their invaluable help with funding the project through Torridge Neighbourhood Watch Forum, JAG Signs at Holsworthy Business Park for their advice, making and locating the signs in each area.
It has been a long process, but one that has been valuable to all the agencies and local communities working together to raise the awareness of the general public with regards speeding and road related incidents.
