OVER 90 members of the public attended a meeting at Launceston Town Hall on Tuesday, Feburary 19 to discuss with Cornwall Council officers the possibility of a supermarket on the Cattle Market Car Parks, Race Hill, Launceston, writes Natalie Venning.
Peter Marsh, interim corporate director of environment for Cornwall Council, explained to the assembled crowd that a developer had approached the council in November, as previously reported in the 'Post', with a proposal for a supermarket on the Race Hill car parks, with the parking "put back on top".
Mr Marsh said: "The local authority can't sell to the first person with a bid without listening to ward members. We came here today to ask if you would sell the land in principle. We told the town council as soon as we made the decision to market it, but there has been no decision to sell. We are interested to see views."
