THE association of horses with the Brendon Arms, in Bude, can be traced back to 1872 when a certain George Brendon took on the pub.
Mr Brendon not only provided horses to pull the nearby lifeboat with its carriage to the sea at low tide he also ran a four-horse coach service to Boscastle, Tintagel and Clovelly.
But while these two features, important as they were in their day, have since passed into history another of Mr Brendon's passions hasn't — that of hunting.
He became the local Master of Fox Hounds, paying for the pack, the horses and men out of his own pocket.
