On Sunday, May 22, Cornish Freemasons travelled to King Arthur’s Hall in Tintagel to present a total of £94,000 to deserving Cornish Charities.

The annual event which started in 2014 had not taken place for the past two years due to the pandemic.

Following the enforced break the members were delighted to be able to resume one of the three grand principles on which Freemasonry is founded, namely charity.

Over 130 charity representatives, lodge members and their guests received a warm welcome from Roger Cargeeg, the Deputy Provincial Grand Master in Charge of the Masonic Province of Cornwall. The Provincial Grand Charity Steward, Mike Pritchard, acted as Master as Ceremonies for the day.

Not only was it a day for giving but it was also a day for receiving. The Provincial Grand Lodge of Cornwall was presented with a Bronze Certificate from Lifelites in recognition of the valuable contributions made. The certificate was presented to Roger Cargeeg by Jane Maisey, the Head of Projects for Lifelites.

Lifelites is the charity which gives over 10,000 life-limited and disabled children who use hospice services across the British Isles an opportunity to use amazing assistive technology packages. The charity supplies and services the equipment which has been proved to be an invaluable aid in treating and caring for such a vulnerable group of children in society. The smiles alone are a joy to behold. Full reports and updates about Lifelites are regularly given to the members of Granville Lodge in Bude by their Charity Steward.

A large number of other charities received donations including the Cornwall Air Ambulance, the RNLI and National Coast Watch as well as a number of hospices and health care related organisations. All the recipients are based or have branches in Cornwall and are all supported  by individual members and their lodges as well as the Province of Cornwall as a whole.
