A MEETING was held recently at the Riverside Hotel, Boscastle, to help determine a formal response to proposed parking fee increases.

Representatives from Cornwall Council, the Boscastle and Forrabury Parish Council, as well as local business owners and members of the public gathered to discuss an issue which has upset much of the county.

Local businessman Chris Dawe was extremely angry and he was amongst many others who spoke at the meeting regarding his fears businesses in Boscastle would not survive if the "ridiculous" charges were applied.

In a letter to the Cornwall Councillor responsible for car parking issues, parish clerk Adrian Precott said: 'Boscastle community would welcome the opportunity to work with the council on Boscastle car park charges to ensure the correct balance is maintained ensuring county council revenue, visitor/tourist value and community needs are all addressed.

'The new localism bill and Cornwall Council owned community network initiatives seem to be disregarded on this issue, even though the council's chief executive has made local/community involvement a high priority.'
