THE Boyton Residents' Action Group was set up last summer to co-ordinate opposition to the planning application for a pub, post office, shop, restaurant, hall and accommodation to be built on a green field site opposite the school. The group has met on a number of occasions since then and will be reporting on its activities along with other village organisations to the annual parish meeting next Wednesday, March 4.

I am sorry that Mr and Mrs Kurn have never been invited to attend our meetings. I will remedy this at once. They will be most welcome but may find themselves out of sympathy with our objectives which are to preserve the rural character of the village, to maintain its peace and quiet and to oppose any disproportionate property development which might destroy these features.

The idea that two affordable homes have been standing empty for months because we have no shop or pub is laughable. All the affordable homes to rent were snapped up immediately. The two that remain are for sale. It is a scandal that they should have been empty for so long when housing need in Cornwall is so great. They should be offered for rent without further delay.

It is true that the phone box and letter box are unlikely to provide much entertainment. But there is a large number of village organisations which exist for precisely that purpose. Before this divisive planning application was submitted, Boyton was as happy and friendly a community as you could hope to find. Now friend is divided from friend and neighbour from neighbour by a proposal which has caused real anger and concern.

The applicant said right at the start that his plan would only succeed if it had the full support of the people of Boyton. We now know that they are two to one against it. So why does he continue to pursue it?

Chairman,

Boyton Residents'

Action Group.
