At the October meeting of the C100 grant panel, members supported applications from eight community groups who received awards ranging from £935 to £3,000.
The money is being used to improve community spaces, provide activities that bring communities together and support charitable organisations helping children and young people. The groups that have benefited from the community grants are Menheniot Parish Hall, St Issey in Bloom, Top Town Memory Café, Otterham PCC, Lanstephan Play Area Park, Penrose Judo Club, Tresmeer Village Hall and St Keverne Methodist Church.
Awards in the Post area were: Top Town Memory Café — £1,347 towards a marquee and PA system for outside events; Otterham Parochial Church Council — £2,000 towards a new vestry roof and toilet facilities; Lanstephan Area Play Park — £1,000 towards new play equipment for toddlers; Tresmeer Village Hall — £2,000 towards replacement of toilets and handbasins.
Lanstephan Area Play Park also benefitted from £1,000 from the C100 club last year towards equipment.
St Issey in Bloom was awarded £935 to take over an area within the local primary school grounds, which at present is unused, to install a poly tunnel, plus two fruit cages and a large water butt. This will enable more fruit, vegetables and plants from seeds, which will be educational and rewarding for the children.
Nat Hughes from C100 member Bishop Fleming, who chaired the grant panel meeting, said: “It was great to have so many businesses represented on the panel whose generous contributions make it possible for us to award this funding. We were able to support projects that make a significant difference in their local areas.”
The C100 Club was established nine years ago in March 2008 and since its inception the business club has invested more than £220,000 into communities in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, supporting more than 130 local projects.
