ST BREWARD History Group has received £6,100 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for its project, '1914 and beyond, the effect of the Great War on the parish of St Breward'.
Awarded through HLF's First World War: then and now programme — part of the Government's First World War Centenary Programme — the project will focus on the 17 men from St Breward who lost their lives during the war and how life changed for the parish in the years that followed.
To mark the centenary of the First World War, the project will enable local people and organisations in St Breward to come together to preserve the memories and heritage of the people who lived through the First World War.
Volunteers will collect photographs, newspaper clippings, documents, letters and photos of keepsakes, memorabilia, as well as family tales passed down to help them build a clear picture of what life was really like.
