PLANS are moving forward for Holsworthy Town Council’s skateboarding event, which it is hoped can be held in line with the 2020 Olympics.
As part of this year’s projects list, Cllr Nigel Kenneally is organising a skateboarding event to encourage people to make better use of the skateboard park in the town.
During the full council meeting on Wednesday, February 5, Cllr Kenneally told councillors how plans were progressing.
He said: “Skateboarding UK are very interested. We would like them to hold a skate school to teach the local kids and then there would be a competition in the afternoon with a few pro skaters taking part. I would like to form a working group thought to discuss details. Jon [Hutchings] has agreed to join already.”
He said this was the first year skateboarding was to be recognised at the Olympic games, adding: “It is the first year skateboarding will be in the Olympics so I would like to try and tie it in if we can.
On Monday, February 17, at 10am I would like to have a meeting with everybody that is interested and sort of get a rough outline of what we want to do.”
Cllrs Joanne Heaven, Jon Hutchings and John Allen put their names forward to join Cllr Kenneally’s working group.
Cllr Keneally added: “I would like to get the local schools involved, can you help Cllr [Toby] Johns? I would also like them to design the posters in their design tech classes, would that be possible?”
Cllr Johns, as a governor on the Dartmoor Multi Academy Trust for the Holsworthy area, agreed to be the link.
