I write in response to the letter in your recent issue from Paula Dolphin
The local Liberal Democrats have been seeking to bribe electors with an uncosted pledge to reduce car parking charges for local residents, which initially appears attractive. However, I was a member of a the group on the Liberal Democrat controlled Implementation Executive which drew up Cornwall Council's budget this year, and the next two years. The projected income from car parking in Cornwall this year is £9.6 million and it is intended to increase to £10.5 million next year. One estimate of the cost of reduced car parking charges is £2 million which make pledges on Council Taxes for next year even more fanciful.
Would it be unkind to suggest that the Liberal Democrats appear to have problems with elementary arithmetic?
