LAUNCESTON College students have achieved results that have put the college ‘in line with the top performing institutions nationally’.

Students gathered at Launceston College well before 9am and had a nervous wait, eager to find out their A-level results.

They have been very successful in their attempts to get into their chosen universities with the vast majority achieving their first choice university.

Philip Baker and Scarlett Long will be off to Oxford and Cambridge Universities respectively. Philip achieved three A*s in biology, chemistry and maths, and an A* in extended project, as well as two As at AS level in further maths and physics. He will be studying Medicine at Brasenose College. He said: “I’m delighted! It has been a lot of hard work.”

Scarlett Long will be going on to study Human Social Political Sciences at St John’s College. She achieved As in chemistry and maths and an A* in biology. She said: “I’m very, very emotional. I have been tense all morning and I haven’t eaten anything! But it’s over now. It was a lot of hard work.”

Lianne Jennings said it was ‘definitely a relief’ to learn she had achieved an A* in extended project and three As in psychology, biology and chemistry. She will be going to the University of Surrey to study biomedical science. She added: “The results were better than I was hoping for so I’m quite pleased.”

Hollie Bickle was also pleased with her results and she will be going on to study Law at University of York. Her results were an A* in maths and As in further maths and English Literature. She said: “I’m just really relieved. We have been waiting for the results for so long. I’m just so happy.”

Lewis Matthews achieved two As and a B to get into Bristol to study Biology. He said: “They were the results I was hoping for, so there is quite a lot of relief.”

Also off to Bristol to study will be Rob Harvey, who achieved grades of two Bs and a D, and will be going on to study product design.

The Royal Veterinary College in London is the next step for Sam Bunn, who achieved an A* in maths and two Bs in chemistry and biology. He will be studying veterinary medicine.

Leah Davey achieved three As in English Literature, History and Psychology, and a B in French. She will be going on to study Psychology at Exeter or Plymouth. Her mother, Nicola Davey, said: “I am really proud. She has worked so hard so she deserves it.”
