HOLSWORTHY Primary School children have been recycling their old newspapers as part of a new iniative.

It is the first school to become involved with insultation provider Ecofill, Lifton, which has launched a newspaper recylcing scheme.

The company, a supplier and installer of Warmcel Insulation (made from 100 per cent recycled newspaper), has teamed up with children from Year 3, in order to encourage recycling and reusing of old papers.

Once a bin has become full, it is collected and for 45 tonnes worth of papers, the school receives £45 which will go towards items for its green campaign.

It is estimated that around four full bins equal 45 tonnes.

After just a few weeks of being involved with the scheme, two collections have been made and an overflow bin provided to cater for the surplus.

The children, aged seven and eight, have encouraged the whole school to get involved, which has now received support from parents, grandparents and members of the community; all sending in their unused publications.
