ARMY Cadets from Holsworthy have enjoyed a Christmas dinner and presentations evening at Holsworthy Golf Club.

With reduced numbers and strictly adhering to government COVID advice the cadets were joined by the Mayor of Holsworthy Cllr Helen Parker and consort Mr Ian Parker.

Several presentations were made including ‘Best Recruit’ and ‘Best Cadet’ by detachment commander Lt Jim Harvey.

The Mayor Cllr Helen Parker presented the Holsworthy Town Council ‘Best NCO’ shield and the new ‘Community Cadet trophy’ sponsored by former Holsworthy county councillor Barry Parsons.

Both awards were collected by Serjeant Alisha Squirrell who also received her Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Lt Harvey added: “Despite operating under pandemic restrictions the detachment has bounced back firmly. As well as our weekly training we have run a laser tag exercise with Survival Combat Games, had cadets on expedition both on land and at sea, entered shooting competitions and helped local good causes to raise over £1,400.

“Numbers are growing and in 2022 we look forward to running recruiting events and hopefully getting back to progressive training and camps.”
