IT’S Christmas time in Holsworthy, so look out for a hoard of ‘Santas’ running through the streets and a joyous display of twinkling lights — not to mention real reindeer and Santa himself!

The Christmas Light Switch On, organised this year by Cllr Jon Hutchings on behalf of the town council, and the Lions Santa Run are returning on November 30 and the day promises to be a festive spectacular.

The fun stretches throughout the day from around 3pm to 8pm. There will be a number of stalls available to peruse, Santa will be in his grotto eager to meet all the young visitors, there will be a chance for everyone to get a picture inside the giant snow globe as well as the opportunity to pet some real reindeer. Not forgetting the Christmas Lights Switch On, which will be carried out by Santa, members of the town council and one lucky child chosen from the audience.

There will also be late night shopping and live music throughout the day including a Michael Bublé tribute act, Dodgey Practice, songs from Barry Parsons and Christmas carols performed by local primary school children. This is an event not to be missed.

Mayor of Holsworthy Jo Heaven is particularly looking forward to the day as she says it is ‘what makes Christmas’ for her. She said: “Father Christmas will be arriving on his sleigh which has been made by Holsworthy Men’s Shed. We are having stilt walkers, reindeers, stalls, the snow globe and live music. One of my personal highlights is to hear the primary school children sing Christmas carols. For me, that is what makes Christmas.”

The Lions Santa Run has become a staple of the Christmas extravaganza in Holsworthy and makes its welcome return. The route will be marshalled by the Lions club and takes entrants from the Square around the park and back to the Square.

The run will be raising money for local Lions charities.

Cllr Hutchings said: “There is still time to enter, people can get forms from the town council offices or they can enter right up to the start of the event in the afternoon in the Square.”

To take part people should fill in and return their form to the Holsworthy Town Council Office with payment or on the day in the Square whereupon the entrants will receive their Santa suit!
