THE work of Launceston museum’s curator and volunteers was praised by town mayor Cllr Brian Hogan at the recent mayor choosing ceremony.

Speaking at the ceremony at the Town Hall on Thursday, May 12, Cllr Hogan told those gathered the town has many attractions, including ‘our town museum, run by our industrious curator Mr Jake Jackson and a totally dedicated team of volunteers’.

He added: “What better place to learn more about [Launceston] than Lawrence House Museum?”

Lawrence House is a fine Georgian house built in 1753, located in Castle Street, which John Betjeman described as ‘having the most perfect collection of 18th Century townhouses in Cornwall’. It is owned by the National Trust and leased to Launceston Town Council, who use it to house the town museum, and as a civic centre.

The museum is open every weekday (including bank holidays) until Friday, October 28 during the hours of 10.30am to 4.30am — last admission 4pm.

The museum is open every Bank Holiday Monday. Keep up to date by visiting the website: www.lawrencehousemuseum.org.uk

The museum is signposted from all the town’s car parks and has a ramp for wheelchair access to the ground floor.

Admission is free but donations, which support the work of the museum, are appreciated.
