U3A MEMBERS are known for their passion for learning something new, but few imagined they would soon be able to explain the difference between powerlifting and weightlifting when they arrived for their monthly coffee morning.
Around 80 members of Launceston & District U3A listened to local disabled powerlifter Jade Farrington discuss the sport and talk about her hopes of reaching the 2016 Paralympics.
Jade had her left femur replaced with a metal prosthesis aged nine following bone cancer. She said: "It was great to have the opportunity to talk to such a friendly and interested group of people, most of whom had no prior knowledge of powerlifting."
