MOST of Launceston was without electricity on Monday morning following a power cut.

A Western Power spokesperson said they lost a high voltage line into Launceston shortly after 8am.

In less than an hour, the electricity was back on in most homes and businesses in the town, apart from the Woburn, Lower Chapel and Western Road areas of Launceston.

Western Power engineers carried out some 'fault-switching' in order to identify the location of the fault.

The power returned to the remaining areas by around 9.45am — including the Cornish & Devon Post offices at Westgate Street. As a consequence, some items have had to be omitted in this edition but will now appear next week

The spokesman confirmed that there was also a power fault in Launceston on Saturday, but this was unrelated.
