Anyone passing Poundstock's ancient Gildhouse last Thursday morning might have thought they were in a timewarp at the sight of thirty people in Tudor costume, busily engaged in making cob for the walls of their cottages, baking bread trenchers to use as plates, and brewing beer (ginger!).

After all their hard work, the new Tudors enjoyed a three-course lunch and then a little relaxation as Sir Nicholas Clovell instructed the assembly on Tudor clothes and instruments and demonstrated the lute, the viol and the violin.

Three Tudor dances, much enjoyed by all, brought a colourful finish to the day. This was all part of the first family Tudor Day to be held at the Gildhouse; a second is planned for August.
