EVEN though an aim of Poundstock Revel is to make some money for Bangors Chapel and St Winwaloe’s Church, the organisers are aware that the main purpose of the afternoon is that all have a happy time.

The revel of 2017 satisfied both aims, raising a total of just over £1,000, but also seeing the many families that came along to the revel field, by kind permission of Jen and Chris Spettigue and Pamela Idelson-Smith, had a wonderful time.

There were plenty of games for both young and old — coconut shy, corn toss, tu-whit-tu-whhoo pla, splat the rat, guess the weight of the lambs and skittling for a bottle of whiskey.

Nicky Mitchell and her pony walked miles giving children rides around the field, but the fastest movers during the afternoon were the competitiors in the children’s races, and some of the hardest falls came during the sack races.

The weather was kind for the revel but for the traditional walk to St Neot’s well on the following day, it was overcast with the occasional drizzle.

This didn’t stop about 20 people walking across the fields to the ancient well for a short informal Celtic service, led by the Rev Rob Dickenson, during which several posies of wild flowers were laid around the well.

As tradition demands, everyone went back to the Gildhouse afterwards for a slap-up tea to round off a great community weekend.
