FOLK musicians from Launceston, Warbstow and Bude joined others from across the South West to perform at this year’s Cornwall Folk Festival.
Cornwall Folk Festival brought some of folk’s finest to North Cornwall and showcased great talent from across Cornwall and the South West from Thursday, August 22, to Monday, August 26.
The festival draws in an audience from all across the country and further afield, and is renowned for its diverse folk music, from traditional to contemporary. It was a great atmosphere in Wadebridge throughout the weekend that saw record breaking temperatures with musicians popping up all over the place.
Headlining acts included The Unthanks, Steve Knightley and Flats and Sharps. Several North Cornwall based musicians played on Sunday, including Ezmay Grace from Bude and contemporary folk duo Annown, Clare from Launceston and Chris from Warbstow.
Clare, who is also a teaching assistant at South Petherwin, said: “It was a really fantastic festival, the town was buzzing. It was brilliant to play on the FAR Stage. The organisers and the volunteers did an incredible job. Members of the audience had come from as far as USA and Germany and they were loving every moment of the festival.”
Annown recently published their first album. All their songs are presented in a creative way, utilising sound samples as well as traditional instruments such as fiddle, banjo, mandolin and guitar. There are blues, jazz and even hip-hop influences which contribute to their unique sound.
Ezmay Grace skilfully accompanied her beautiful voice on guitar, and has been creating waves in the local music venues in and around her home town of Bude.
Cornwall Folk Festival runs various other activities throughout the year. They run a session every fourth Monday at the Wadebridge Social Club, Fairport Road, from around 8pm. All singers, musicians and listeners are welcome.
