AS part of the Charles Causley Festival, portraits of the poet will be looking proudly down on Launceston.
The specially commissioned bunting, screen-printed in Cornwall, features portraits of the poet created by young people in collaboration with the Launceston Youth Council. The project was arranged by Sara Black as part of this year’s Charles Causley Festival and is supported by generous donations from FEAST and Cornwall Community Foundation.
Margaret Young, deputy mayor, said: “This is the result of effort from a number of groups and individuals in the community and thanks also go to Terry Graves Electrical for putting it up, Launceston Tourist Information Centre for ensuring permissions are in place, and Launceston Town Council for its support for this project, the festival and Launceston Youth Council”.
Kate Stark, spokesperson for Launceston Youth Council said: “Not only are we looking forward to this year’s Causley Festival, everyone is excited about the Centenary Year in 2017 and we are very proud to have been involved in a project which leaves a legacy for Charles Causley Centenary Events.
“In addition to celebrating Launceston’s famous son the Youth Council is working towards a Youth Festival for August 2017. Youth Councillors have said that there is little to do in Launceston during the summer holidays when groups and clubs break from usual routine.
“With support from Launceston Town Council, young people are being empowered to organise events and also engage with local clubs, groups and the wider community to work together to put on a full programme of activities.”
If anyone from any group, club, venue, sport or activity, in or around the town, would like more information or to find out how to get involved in the Youth Festival 2017 call the town council or email [email protected]
