THE Port Gaverne Hotel has been hailed the ‘Best Pub in Cornwall’ for the second year in a row at the 2017 National Pub and Bar Awards, following a stellar year for David and Jackie Barnard and the team.
Amongst the many accolades picked up over the last year, the Port Gaverne was voted top gastropub in Cornwall at the prestigious Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropub Awards, while the hotel also made it to the finals of the Great British Pub Awards in the ‘Best Inn’ category.
The Port Gaverne made the Catey hospitality awards finals last year, and also gained two AA rosettes and was voted Best Food Pub by peers and business partners at the 2017 St Austell Brewery estate awards.
Landlord, David, said: “This is a fabulous vote of confidence for the entire team. To win this award once is amazing, but to hold on to it and win it twice gives us an enormous sense of pride in the work we all put in to make the Port Gaverne what it is — a great place to come and enjoy great food and great service.”
Estate director, Adam Luck, said: “These fantastic wins truly reflect the successful partnerships we have built with our tenants, helping them to bring out the best in their businesses. While these awards are down to their hard work, St Austell Brewery was voted best pub company for the fifth year running in a recent independent tenant survey, which shows how closely we work with all of our publicans, giving them the support they need to succeed on all levels.”
A total of 94 pubs have been selected as the best in their area and will now have the chance to be named the best in their region.
The awards, organised by Pub and Bar magazine, will see the 94 county winners from across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland entered into the National Pub and Bar Awards grand final at London’s iconic BAFTA theatre on Tuesday, May 24. On the evening, 12 regional winners and one overall National Pub and Bar of the Year will be announced.
