THE fancy dress wheelbarrow races took place to start Tintagel Carnival Week on Saturday, July 28.

The evening’s racing started with the under 12s race, the competitors raced around the Mayfair car park performing tasks as they ran (zig zag poles, apple bobbing and star jumping followed by a complete circuit at full speed).

With the crowd cheering on the participants, the race was won by Tea and Bella followed by Joe and Dexter and third went to Finlay and Cory with the best fancy dress wheelbarrow won by William and Charlie.

Then came the big race of the evening, the over 18s race.

With nine teams entered, the race started at Tintagel Visitors Centre. The field dashed to the first refreshment stop at the Tintagel Arms, then on to the Cornishman, Wootons Hotel, turn and drink at the old country club car park.

Further refreshment was taken at the Malt House and finally the King Arthur’s Arms with a final mad dash to the finish at Trevena Square. A very exciting men’s race was won by Kyle and Danny as Hawaii Boys, followed by Adam and Cocky as the Kings and third place went to Ed and Andy as Trump and the Mexican.

The women’s race was won by Nina and Zoe as the Mermaids of Zenna. The best fancy dress wheelbarrow prize was won by Dan, Matt, Ed and Jake as The Police.

After the race, Phil Aston of the Tintagel Carnival Committee, said: “What a fantastic evening! A big thank you to all the entrants, committee members and supporters for organising the evening, the local village pubs for helping with refreshments and all the people who lined Fore Street encouraging the runners and helping raise money for carnival funds.”
