THANKS to the help of the friends of Camelford Royal British Legion, more than 1,000 knitted and crocheted poppies have been hand sewn onto a net as part of the 100 year’s Remembrance.
Kirsty Ferguson, former secretary of the Camelford branch and mayor of Camelford, has sewn on the poppies with Shirley Goodman, Ann Grundy (pictured) and Wendy Clark over the last fortnight.
The idea was mooted last year and things got moving quickly, with several members starting to knit and crochet to realise the dream of having a poppy wave displayed in the town.
The poppy wave will be on display in the new roofed bandstand at the entrance to Enfield Park from Friday, November 9, until Wednesday, November 14. The organisers will gather at 9.30am on November 9 for the installation of the wave. Camelford Town Council will also set the bandstand lights to red to tie in with the theme.
Kirsty said: “It’s our way of remembering those who gave their lives for us and generations to come. A big thank you to those who have knitted especially Lesley Valentine and Pauline Sandercock who have organised others to do so. We will remember them.”
