WHILE Lawrence House Museum’s building in Castle Street is closed for repairs, readers will be delighted to learn that its so-called ’pop-up’ museum in now open at the Merchant’s House, 11a High Street, Launceston.
Visitors to the main museum often comment that it is “a little gem”. The curator, Dr Damon Dennis and volunteers have therefore followed the trend and opened another little jewel which will give visitors a chance to see exhibitions and selections of objects from the collection from now onwards until the main museum can be re-opened.
Lawrence House Pop-Up Museum is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10.30am until 4.30pm with last entry at 4pm.
It is still free to enter though it is hoped visitors will make generous donations when they visit. The opening exhibition celebrates the belated centenary of Launceston & North Cornwall Motor Club which was delayed by COVID. It features the history of the club and the feats of generations of ’petrolheads’ some of whom were women and among the fascinating display of exhibits there is motorcycling attire for women in the early 1900s and today.
A spokesperson said: "We hope Launcestonians and their visitors will flock to see the new museum which it is hoped will be open throughout the autumn and winter into next spring."
