CAMELFORD residents, Matt and Sam Allan, are organising a ‘Pop Til You Drop’ event at Camelford Hall (Clease Hall) on Saturday, February 11.
The husband and wife duo are raising money for local charity Front Line Emergency Equipment Trust Ltd (FLEET) who use money to buy equipment for emergency teams in Cornwall.
In April, Matt and Sam will also run the London Marathon for the charity, but before then they have decided to do something a bit different.
Starting at 11.30am, children under the age of ten are being invited to the Clease Hall for a snack and drink before the main event begins at around midday.
Eighty square metres of bubble wrap has been ordered which will take up about two thirds of the hall with the rest of the hall being left vacant for parents and guardians to watch.
For an extra pound, ten golden tickets are on offer where children get the chance to go on to the bubble wrap first before the rest are allowed on.
All golden tickets will have some sweets in to make the purchase of the ticket worthwhile.
Despite not having a clue of what’s going to happen, Matt is looking forward to seeing how it pans out.
Matt said: “A few weeks ago I was just thinking about random ideas which we could do before the marathon and I thought of this.
“To my knowledge it’s something which has never been done before and it’s not really expensive either so the more we thought about it the more we realised it’s something we could do.
“I’ve had to go and do the measurements in the hall and buy the bubblewrap off eBay but I’m expecting it to be a good couple hours where children can have lots of fun and raise money for a great cause at the same time.
“Since we put out the notice on Facebook we’ve had around 40 people come back to us and sign up for it so we’re hoping to raise a good amount for FLEET.
“We think we’ll have enough room for about 70 children and we’re hoping that we’ll get that to burst as much bubble wrap as possible. I don’t know what it’ll be like or how long it’s going to take but for young children popping bubble wrap is always fun.”
Before Christmas Matt and Sam also organised a ‘Breakfast With Santa’ morning and a ‘Hot Cocoa and Cake With Santa’ afternoon on the same day, which raised more than £400, and Matt says that many of the children who attended those have signed up.
Matt said: “Before Christmas we hosted a couple of events which raised £410 and many of the parents of the children who went along to those have signed up for the ‘Pop Till You Drop’ day on February 11 and I hope people will continue to do so.
“For just £5 each child will be given a snack, crisps and drink and a chance to burst as many bubbles as possible.”
