BUDE Police are asking for people to be vigilant and to review the security at home, following a small spate of burglaries in the Bude area, predominately in rural locations.

PC Gary Watts, Bude Rural Neighbourhood Beat Manager, said: "Opportunists are taking advantage of the trusting good nature of residents who are used to our extremely low crime levels. Homes and outbuildings are being left unlocked making them a prime target for the opportunist thief. Homes and buildings in remote locations such as North Tamerton and Week St Mary have become easy pickings and we urge everyone to ensure all doors and windows are secure, no matter how long you are out of the building."

The police are also asking for anyone with information or having seen anyone behaving suspiciously regarding a burglary during the day on October 27 in North Tamerton (police log number BU/08/726) or the burglary in Week St Mary (police log number BU/08/729) between October 25 and 28 to contact them on 08452 777444. Alternatively information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
