CARS parking in the loading bay of Camelford’s Co-op store are becoming ‘a very common occurance’ causing problems for their delivery lorries.

The issue with cars parking in the loading bay is becoming a regular occurrence with it happened almost on a daily basis — causing the Co-op a lot of problems with their delivery lorries being unable to park outside in order to unload goods.

The lorries need to be unloaded but are often unable to park correctly in order to do so due to cars being illegally parked, causing an unnecessary obstruction to all road users passing by this area. The illegal parking of cars in the loading bay will also prevented emergency vehicles from being able to navigate through the resulting traffic chaos, endangering lives.

PC Daniel Gooch said: “Motorists who park in this layby need to be mindful that they risk receiving a ticket from the police informing them that they are being reported for the offence of unnecessary obstruction and also that their vehicle may be removed.

“We are getting a lot of calls regarding drivers ignoring the ‘loading only sign’, which is clearly and correctly positioned in the layby by the Co-op and will be taking robust action with anyone that doesn’t comply.”

The police have the power to remove illegally parked vehicles and recently a car was towed away from the loading bay at a cost to the owner of £150 for removal and collection services.

Along with the fee for removal of the vehicle there was a traffic offence to be dealt with, which at the police’s discretion can range from a fine of £30 with no penalty points to attending a driver awareness course at a cost of £85. Repeat offenders can find themselves in court with a larger fine.
