POLICE are advising people in the Bude area to be vigilant after a recent spate of burglaries.

Bude Neighbourhood Police Team said while people should not be unnecessarily alarmed, extra vigilance is ‘important’.

They said: “Basic principles of security include making sure all property is appropriately locked and items are out of view. Now the evenings are darker doing your own security procedures earlier is recommended.

“Please be wise with social media and do not post any suggestions that you will be leaving your property, i.e. going on holiday, as opportunists also use social media for this purpose.

“If your property or business uses CCTV or other security methods please ensure you review them and make sure they are working correctly.

“Do please enjoy knowing that you live in a safe area.

“Please do report any suspicious activities to 101 if not urgent or 999 in an emergency.”
