POLICE are 'failing' to protect residents against abuse by youths in one of the town's most popular locations, it was claimed this week.

A number of nearby residents — who do not wish to be named — have expressed concerns that not only are incidents involving intimidating youths in the Castle and Bude Light area on the increase, but the police are failing to uphold bylaws introduced to prevent such behaviour.

One resident described the youngsters as being 'aggressive and intimidating' and said they 'use awful language to anyone and everyone'.

One resident regularly chooses to walk a longer alternative route home, rather than pass the Castle and encounter any abuse.
