FOLLOWING increasing concerns regarding the safety and behaviour of young people in the town, Police in Bude have now begun their robust policing of underage drinking. Recently, anti-social behaviour and damage have been attributed to young people after they have consumed alcohol.
On Friday, May 15, officers commenced underage drinking patrols. As a result, a large quantity of alcohol was seized and disposed of, and parents of a number of drunken youths were requested to meet with officers in order to take their children home.
PC Dave Monkton, Neighbourhood Beat Manager for Bude, Stratton and Poughill said: "Patrols of this nature will continue and youths found to be either drunk or in possession of alcohol will be dealt with accordingly. We will also be looking at how the young people have obtained the drinks and will be looking to take further action where appropriate.
"We are not only taking this action in order to protect the youths from the effects of alcohol, but also to protect other members of the community from becoming victims of crime. We want to improve the quality of life for those who may be affected by the
conduct of those who have been drinking and will take what ever action is
needed."
Anti-social behaviour is a persistent problem in Bude and the surrounding area and officers are committed to tackling this issue which has been identified as a priority by the local community during the latest PACT meeting (Partners and Communities Together).
