POLICE are reminding people of the ‘strict regulations’ surrounding the use of drones.

It comes after Launceston Police said they have received several reports about inappropriate use of drones.

They wrote: “We would like to remind those using drones that there are strict regulations which you must adhere to: your drone must weigh less than 20kg to use for domestic purposes; you must not fly within 150m of a congested area (a street, town or city); you must not fly within 50m of a person, vessel, vehicle or structure; you must fly the drone ‘within sight’ at all times, not exceeding 400ft in altitude or 500m horizontally.

“If you are using your drone for commercial purposes i.e. if you are receiving payment for using it, you must seek permission from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to do so.

“You must also be mindful if you are using a drone fitted with a camera that you are not breaching the Data Protection Act or CCTV codes of practice whilst filming or taking photographs.”
