A DECISION not to introduce an alcohol-free zone in Bude as a means of deterring under-age drinking has been questioned by a town councillor.

Sergeant Jez Theobald, who is in charge of the neighbourhood team that polices Bude and surrounding areas, told the council's latest meeting that discussions exploring the prospect of an alcohol-free zone in the town centre had concluded enough powers were already available to officers dealing with the problem.

A designated zone would also provide an extra expense for the town and county councils to deal with, factoring in the production of signage, for example — Sgt Theobald said this too was something considered unnecessary.
