LAUNCESTON police have carried out speed monitoring in South Petherwin, after reports of people speeding there.

The speed monitoring was carried out on the main road through the village on Monday, starting at 2.45pm, to include the school pick-up time. They finished the speed monitoring at 3.45pm.

Police said over that hour they monitored 50 vehicles, and six were found to be over the speed limit of 30mph.

Launceston Police wrote on its Facebook page: “We monitored the vehicles coming both ways through the village and there were no vehicles found to be speeding coming from the old post office direction to past the turning for the school.

“We will be doing this again at different times of the day but from our initial findings there does not appear to be increase of speeding and matches most of the results we have had when we have done this in other villages. At present there is no evidence of any issues we could take to the highways department.

“Although we agree the traffic does appear to be moving fast through the village, most of the 50 vehicles were doing 29mph or less — this seems to be the average speed.”
