HOLSWORTHY Neighbourhood Police Team have recently joined up with Devon and Cornwall Housing to hold a planting day at Craddock Close, creating a more vibrant and welcoming community space within the new estate.
The project came about when Holsworthy Police got in touch with Alison Knight from Devon and Cornwall Housing, who has been heavily involved in funding for these types of community-based projects.
It was decided a space was needed in Craddock Close, a more recent estate in Holsworthy, for parents to keep a close eye on their children when playing outside and meeting up with friends.
Despite the drizzly weather, the planting day saw between 20 and 25 children come along to help with digging the soil and planting the new flowers and plants to be the basis for their new community area. A number of adult helpers and staff from Holsworthy Police also attended, making the day a great community project.
PFCSO Mark James from Holsworthy Neighbourhood Police Team said: “It’s important to help out and to muck in and get involved.
“It’s hoped that the planting day and other projects in the area will help bring the community closer together. Especially with Craddock Close being a new estate, with people coming in all the time – not only from the local area, but also from further afield. I like to think it helps build a more cohesive neighbourhood.”
