SOME youths have been banned from Bude Sea Pool, following vandalism there last month — but police are still appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the damage being caused to contact them.
Evidence was found at the scene, and police identified a number of local youths who were present and allegedly involved in the damage and theft of a folding pedal cycle on July 11.
Some of those involved have been banned from the pool by the police at the request of the Friends of Bude Sea Pool, who say anti-social behaviour and criminal damage to the area will not be tolerated.
The police still have a number of people to question, but hope those involved will contact them first. Police are regularly visiting the pool since the incident and Friends of Bude Sea Pool have expressed thanks to them for their efforts.
The pool is run entirely by volunteers who give their time freely and willingly to ensure that residents and tourists alike continue to enjoy the facility.
Friends members who discovered the results of the vandalism were disheartened to be confronted with damaged beach huts, broken glass and litter scattered everywhere.
Eight huts had their windows broken and there was damage to personal property inside them with mustard and cooking oil spread around.
Broken beer bottles were found on the terraces and children’s bikes, buckets and spades were scattered around the area and in the pool.
Children’s wet suits belonging to the Amateur Swimming Association stored for the Swim Safe initiative were covered in shards of glass and two had to be thrown away.
