THE title of ‘Love That is Stronger Than Death’ gave St Mary’s Church, Lifton’s flower festival one of the most poignant and thought provoking exhibitions the community had ever seen.

There were 21 displays and all the flowers were stunning. The theme commemorated the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.

Present day charities were well represented but also personal and family remembrance ranging from the sinking of the Titanic, to World Wars One and Two, including the bombing of Plymouth, ‘make do and mend’, a soldier killed in Afghanistan, and the resurrection.

There were three arrangements marking the anniversaries of the Grenfell Tower Fire, the murder of Lee Rigby and the Manchester Arena attack.

There was a very enjoyable concert on the evening of Sunday, May 27 including the Lifton singers as well as the church choir, all on the theme of love.

People made generous donations, which will go towards keeping the church warm.
