CAMELFORD Community Launderette has ceased trading after six months due to low use, which meant the business was left unsustainable.

The launderette project was devised by the church in response to identified local need, especially the toddler group where mums had stated they could not afford to have their own washing machine at home. The closest launderette at the time was at Tintagel.

Deanery Lay Chair and member of the Diocesan Executive Mike Todd explained: "At a meeting with the Bishop of Truro, the Rev Tim Thornton, last month, after it was evident that the launderette would have to cease trading forthwith, I offered to act independently and in a voluntary capacity to do whatever administration was involved in winding-up the project, not least because the group behind the initial project had collapsed and there was no-one left who could carry out the work. Further, there were insufficient funds to pay a professional in liquidation on behalf of the project."
