An afternoon of welly boot inspired fun events was held at Pancrasweek Village Hall on Sunday, October 10 (the start of National Welly Week held for the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institute or RABI).

This was a social event held by the North Devon Coast and Country Group of Devon Farms and Farmstay (a co-operative of farmers who provide quality accommodation in North Devon) with their families and friends and an opportunity to raise money for a farming charity.

This group of farming families offer self-catering and bed and breakfast on working farms from Bude to Ilfracombe and South Molton to Holsworthy.

The group always try to give their guests great hospitality and a real feel for farming in North Devon.

Competitions included flower arrangements in a welly won by Virginia Bourner (16 and over) and Joanne Wood (aged 11); best recycled welly — Roger and Alison Parmerly (16 and over); best decorated welly — Hazel Cox (16 and over) and Katie Wood (aged nine); welly throwing —Roddy Wood (16 and over), Alan Wood (12) and Joanne Wood (11) and most potatoes grown in a welly — Hilary Ayre (16 and over).

The children also coloured in a welly picture on the day and this was won by Katie Wood (aged nine).

The ladies from the Holsworthy area who organised the Welly Fun Day have expressed a 'huge' thank you to the local companies who sponsored the event with prizes.

Lunch of cider, pasties and cakes, supplied by local businesses, was enjoyed by all.

A fantastic sum of £305 was raised on the day.
